The truth is that too many women today, from their early thirties onwards, suffer from serious hormonal imbalances that are way too often either disregarded, ignored, or undiagnosed by the conventional doctors and practitioners; or that are artificially and poorly dealt with by the harmful and unnecessary prescription of the contraceptive pill or other contraceptive devices that mask the symptoms without dealing with the underlying root causes.

While we know that perimenopause, menopause, and post- menopause are natural and normal human processes in any woman’s life that cannot be avoided, the good news is that most of their unpleasant, distressful, and even debilitating symptoms can actually be either aggravated or improved by therapeutically modifiable factors like diet, exercise, smoking, drinking, caffeine intake, stress, pharmaceutical drugs use, toxic burden, unresolved traumas-wounds or emotions, and genetics. The duty of a practitioner is to investigate the above factors one by one and fix those that need to be fixed, before prescribing pharmaceuticals, the pill, or not prescribing anything at all, which is as much of a poor strategy as just masking the symptoms with chemicals.

Hormonal Imbalances

Some of the most common symptoms of perimenopause and menopause are the following:

  • Insomnia
  • Water retention
  • Weight gain
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Loss of libido
  • Anxiety, depression
  • Migraines
  • Fatigue
  • Gut health issues
  • And more!

The above symptoms, as well as many more very common symptoms of perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause, are all due to the natural loss in estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone that a woman experiences from the age of 30 onwards. This loss is inevitable, as nature so intends, and the nearer we get to our menopause, the more intense the symptoms can become. If you are burned-out, your perimenopausal or menopausal symptoms will be greatly amplified, which means that in order to improve your quality of life from your perimenopause, if you’re fatigued and highly stressed, the first line of therapy MUST be addressing your BURNOUT, and only then, your other hormones.

Also please remember this: apart from adrenal dysfunction / adrenal fatigue or BURNOUT, female hormonal imbalances can be dramatically induced, aggravated, or improved by other factors like diet, exercise, sleep quality and duration, stress levels or stress management, pharmaceutical drug use, supplementation, the gut microbiome, insulin resistance, alcohol consumption, caffeine, smoking, mindset, emotions, unresolved traumas and wounds, human relationships, and spirituality. This means that getting as sole prescription for your hormonal imbalances the contraceptive pill or an IUD, or even HRT, is nothing but an incomplete and insufficient, and thus ineffective strategy that will only work as a superficial patch and that will leave you emotionally, physically, psychically, and spiritually depleted.

But whilst each one of these amazing strategies do work wonders, the best approach is to practice them all together as together they tackle simultaneously all the various dimensions of a woman’s existence: her body, her emotions, her mind, and her spirit.

Working only on the physical body is an insufficient approach and it will fail sooner or later, for sure.
